Minboggling Speed

mindboggling? A word from The Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy that impressed me very much :-)

I signed up with a provider to have faster access for big files. So far only the pictures and video clips in the history section are on the faster server.

If you have a (A)DSL connection, a cable modem or anything else faster than 256kbps you will notice that it takes far less time to download those video clips. Testing revealed bandwidth > 3Mbps - I dont know how fast, I could not pull more...

So if you have a connection faster than 3Mbps, please dowload one of the bigger clips and tell me how fast it got to you.

Sobig

one of the french members caught the virus, and I have been flooded with the virus, virus warnings and receipt confirmations.
As you might know, virus generates a faked sender address, so there is no sense in notifying the sender of the virus...

There is one way to figure out who sent the virus. The first mail server receiving the mail puts a line in the header. This reveals the true IP number of the sending system.

If you also get copies of the virus, inform the person responsible for the network. You can find the person in charge by going to a whois server (eg http://www.radb.net/cgi-bin/radb/whois.cgi?obj=x.x.x.x <- replace the x's with the IP number) and checking who is administrating the network.
Write a email with the hard facts to eighter the address listed, or if there is none send it to postmaster@virus.domain <- replace with the domain revealed by the whois server.

Sometimes the administrator reacts within less than an hour, in other cases the email is ignored (or at least not replied).

I wonder what Sobig will do next - the current version, Sobig.F was a failure (as far as its real purpose was concerned). It will be replaced by the next version on September 11th

Future

My flying projects have stalled a bit due to several reasons:
  • I have to build the new plane
  • I have to buy a better motor
  • the weather changed - no more hot and no wind, but a lot cooler and wind every day
I have other projects though:

  • I will get another room by end of this month and move all my servers and the TruckBox there
  • I bought sensors (electronic compass, temp and humidity sensor) which I will use eighter on Unimog or some other project
Any suggestions what to do with them?

Speaking of >Unimog - members asked me when it will be online again. I suspect that one of the sensors is not working well, and I have to put back the wireless video back on Unimog.

About a year ago I had it online a lot, but nobody was there to drive it.
If you're interested in driving Unimog, please inform me so I see who and how many members are interested. I will fix the vehicle and inform you when its online (once I get > 10 replies, that is)

Have a good time
