home/ history/ 2003/ newsletters/ 22/ drivers.mail Hi there I changed the chat setup back to what it was > 6months ago. For those of you who dont know, the setup is as follows: www.webtruck.org runs a IRC server (what is IRC? http://www.mirc.com/irc.html) on port 6667. as not everybody has a IRC client installed, you find a Java version http://www.webtruck.org/chat <- here The server is not connected to any IRC network. Normally there's just one channel, #webtruck. There you'll find TruckBot, it reports on who's driving and even offers a interface to control the truck (doubleclick on truckbot, tell him drive, and it will tell you how you do that) You can also start a conversation with TruckBot - if you're bored :-) The main reason for me to change this is that chatting is much more responsive, and I can stay there as well with the Trillian IM. Ultrasonic sensor On unimog I use the polaroid ultrasonic sensor to measure distances up to 10meters. This was one of the more expensive parts, and that is why there is only one. Several people documented how to recycle the sensor from a used polaroid camera, eg. http://www.uoxray.uoregon.edu/polamod/ I am in the process of doing so: http://www.webtruck.org/history/2003/may/polaroid/? HouseCam Today the house elements were set up - big work going on, the scaffold is no longer standing around nothing :-) I will provide pictures as time allows WebTruck |
