Hi

I was using trillions of CPU cicles to finally come up with time lapse video in good quality, pictures of several cams united in one video stream.

When I say stream I think of something like the gulf stream, as six webcams combined in a time lapse make up much more bandwidth than my internet connection can handle - sometimes it even tops the Super Video CD specs

I used to compile the mpegs using convert from the ImageMagick packet to add text and scale the pics, and mpeg_encode to create a mpeg1 stream (all on linux).

Now I use gimp controlled by perlgimp to create the pictures and transcode/ffmpeg to create a the mpeg4 stream. This process allows more flexible alignment of pictures and fonts (on linux as well, of course).

you can find 3 screenshots here: http://www.webtruck.org/history/History2003?

I plan to make clips with the most amazing sequences, like the office move back in november, Unimog driving scenes

If I have the time, this will be WebTruckDVD II :-) ( http://www.webtruck.org/history/2002/dvd? ) Maybe I'll put some of the clips online in lower quality.

Transition from the old webserver to the new one is completed, no more content is served from the old machine, all pictures and streams are generated and stored on the new machine(s).

webtruck.org now consists of 3 main computers

  • frontend server / firewall - Zope server with application logic - storage and stream server

and 4 auxiliary computers for cameras, sound and remote control Behind the scene still similar to the situation back in january 2001 http://www.webtruck.org/history/2001/january/schema.gif/view? but with all computers replaced minus CyberMaster plus TrackCam, OfficeCam, Unimog, Zope application Server :-)

we had some nice and warm days - soon you'll see leafs on the trees out there - people were popping up around lunch time
