Wingo

After flying the Merlin for a whole year I wanted to move to something that could handle wind. The Merlin will not fly in wind over 5 mph and that really limits your flying window (morning, evenings or indoors). I really like what I saw with the Wingo Porter (seiz airplane of choice) but I didn't want such a large plane so I picked its smaller version the Wingo. Plus the float option let me take it on vacation to the lake :).

Launch

Winter 2004/2005

I ordered the skis for the Wingo but they were not in stock. It looks like the company that makes the plane has closed their doors. So I don't know if i will ever see the skis. I am glad I got the floats when I did.

Spring 2005

I have flown the plane several times this year (with and without the floats). Unfornately I am down to one battery pack. Two of the battery packs will no longer hold a big enough charge to keep the plane in the air. I hope to replace them before summer hits.

What happens when you try to fly when it is too windy? I think the pictures explain it all. Got to get it repaired before winter I found a pair of skis for park flyers.

March 2006

I am happy to report that the Wingo successfully flew with all its major repairs. I was a bit concerned about the wing breaking at the repair joints under high stress but the couple of loops I did killed any fears. I didn't get the chance to try the skis. Mother Nature and procrastination killed that opportunity, maybe next winter.

January 2007

We finally got enough snow that I could put the skis on the plane. It was pretty cold so I only flew for a couple of minutes. The plane does loop nicely with the skis. My wife helped out by taking the pictures.

Summer 2007

CRASH! I turned away to address a friend. While turning to friend I accidently sent the plane into a dive. By the time I turned back to look the plane it had already smacked into the lake. My friend told me I missed a spectacular crash. After review of the wreckage it was determined that a rebuild would add to much weight, the plane was retired.

January 2009

New wingo has been built. Waiting for nicer weather for first flight and a few beauty shot before the first flight.

April 2009

Flew for the first time. Plane was nose heavy and difficult to fly. I have not decide how to fix the problem. Do I add more weight to the tail (adding more weight to the plane) or move the battery back (I use different types of batteries, major pain). The great debate begins...
